Understanding Reiki Healing Reactions: What You Need to Know

Reiki is a beautiful, gentle practice that aims to balance and restore the energy flow within our bodies, but like any other healing practice, it can trigger some reactions that might confuse or worry us if we are unaware of them. Reiki flows into us, releasing any stagnant energy that resides within. These reactions are called healing reactions and they are a natural and beneficial part of the healing process. These are signs that the process of healing and equilibrium has begun. Here are some common healing reactions that you might experience after a Reiki session:

Emotional Release: Reiki works not only on the physical level but also on the emotional and mental levels. During or after a session, you might release pent-up emotions, memories, or feelings that have been stored in your energy field. This can manifest as crying, laughing, or feeling overwhelmed, but it’s essential to understand that these emotions are not negative. They are a way of releasing blockages to restore balance. It’s important to sit with and allow yourself to feel anything that comes up.

Physical Symptoms: As the energy flow within your body is being restored, you might notice some physical manifestations. These can include headaches, fatigue, dizziness, or even flu-like symptoms. These reactions are not uncommon and have been called healing crisis. They are temporary and usually last for only a few days. I recommend staying hydrated, taking salt baths and moving or resting your body as you feel called to. Listen to your body. (You can check out our shop for bath teas that can greatly ease these symptoms.)

Increased Awareness: As your energy field is aligned, and your chakras are balanced, you might feel more present. Your senses might become heightened. You may notice things you haven’t noticed before, feel more intuitive or even have vivid dreams. This is a sign that your energy is shifting and that you are becoming more aware.

Deep Relaxation: Reiki induces relaxation, and during a session, you might feel deeply relaxed to the point of falling asleep. This is not uncommon and is a sign that your body is digesting the energy it needs. Many people report waking up feeling energized and refreshed after a Reiki session.

It’s essential to understand that these healing reactions are normal and are a sign that the healing process is working. Practitioners usually recommend sessions once a week for a month to start. During the first session, the body is jut being introduced to Reiki. In the following sessions, Reiki continues to gain and then maintain balance. If you experience any discomfort or have any concerns, be sure to communicate with your Reiki practitioner. They can help guide you through the process and ensure that you have positive and beneficial progress. Embrace any healing reactions and trust that your body knows how to heal itself. With time, and patience you will emerge feeling renewed and refreshed.
